Kopi Sulingan

Starting from concerns about underutilized coffee commodities; In mid-2015, we started a coffee processing business. Our business base is in Gunungkelir, Jatimulyo, Girimulyo Kulon Progo. This coffee product is branded Distilled Coffee. The name of the distillate is inspired by the sulingan bird (Cyornis banyumas) which is usually found around coffee plantations. The flute bird is the type of bird that is most intensively hunted.

To meet the need for raw materials, we collect ripe coffee berries from farmers in Jatimulyo Village and its surroundings. The types of coffee processed include robusta and arabica. Coffee has been grown in Jatimulyo since the pre-independence era. Coffee plants grow in the shade of community forests (agroforests), are cultivated by the community traditionally, and are one of dozens of plants cultivated by the community.

In carrying out the production process, we apply strict standards in fruit selection (sorting), post-harvest processing, seed sorting, storage, roasting (roasting), as well as packaging. Every batch of coffee we release has gone through an internal taste testing process to ensure every cup of coffee enjoyed by consumers is the best coffee we can produce.

The spirit of Sulingan Coffee is to contribute to maintaining the existence and function of the community forests that dominate the Jatimulyo Village area. We try to contribute to conservation efforts, especially birds and their habitats. One of the programs we run is bird nest adoption, where we donate part of the profits to safeguard nests for several priority bird species.
